Ridiculous! 20 minutes deadline
(Message 2058)
Posted 21 Nov 2025 by Dr Who Fan Post: These tasks were very short - about 1..2 minutes for an "average" computer. And they were successfully computed. Even if they very short running tasks the deadline/turn around time should be more reasonable. As others have said previously At least a one day minimum. |

Ridiculous! 20 minutes deadline
(Message 2054)
Posted 20 Nov 2025 by Dr Who Fan Post: Please fix your schedules for tasks being sent out. These extremely short turnaround times are unmanageable for probably the majority of users attached to the project. This is a waste of computing resources, yours and our upload/download Internet bandwidth. Please explain what is the reason you need them back so soon? Ridiculous! 20 minutes deadline on recently sent out tasks. Example: Task 171645641 Sent 20 Nov 2025, 19:56:18 UTC Report deadline 20 Nov 2025, 20:16:18 UTC |

Lots of FAILED / ERROR OUT tasks
(Message 2048)
Posted 2 Oct 2025 by Dr Who Fan Post: Suddenly every task is ERRORING OUT in a matter of a few seconds after starting. Doesn't matter what version of Windows they are running on. They ALL have the same thing in common: Error: startup_info.hStdInput is invalid Example https://rake.boincfast.ru/rakesearch/result.php?resultid=167321336 Stderr output <core_client_version>7.16.20</core_client_version> <![CDATA[ <stderr_txt> 18:59:29 (3392): wrapper (7.9.26016): starting 18:59:29 (3392): wrapper: running rake_lsspectra_3.7_windows_intelx86_64.exe () Error: startup_info.hStdInput is invalid 19:02:41 (3392): rake_lsspectra_3.7_windows_intelx86_64.exe exited; CPU time 177.685139 19:02:41 (3392): called boinc_finish(0) </stderr_txt> ]]> Edit to add they are all marked VALID ON THE WEBSITE HERE but marked INVALID ON BOINC upon "completion" |

Strange credit calculation for Spectra of Latin squares
(Message 2020)
Posted 5 Jun 2025 by Dr Who Fan Post: Hi! When granted credit is proportional to amount of calculations, for each computer granted credit = run_time / k. But k are different for different computers. :) This is extremely unfair to EVERYONE who returns valid tasks...... If you want to keep the current volunteers and attract new volunteers, I highly recommend you change this way of awarding credit. So an OLDER, less powerful computer will receive MORE CREDIT than a very MODERN, and MORE POWERFUL computer will receive LESS CREDIT FOR THE SAME AMOUNT OF WORK. Also, if the computer/BOINC exit BEFORE the task completes the time and credit received will be LESS than if they let it run without interruptions. This is coming from a 25 year veteran of SETI/BOINC. |

jobs waiting for reporting
(Message 1915)
Posted 4 Oct 2024 by Dr Who Fan Post: This is not for the average user and if you're not careful you can break or cause problems with BOINC to run properly. You need to add or make a change to the cc_config.xml file located in your BOINC DATA FOLDER using a TEXT EDITOR such as Windows Notepad(.exe) ** Make sure you exit BOINC before editing the file AND MAKE A BACKUP COPY in case you break something. The folder might be hidden and is by default located at C:\ProgramData\BOINC The part you need to edit or add is detailed below. <options> <report_results_immediately>1</report_results_immediately> </options> |

(Message 1913)
Posted 4 Oct 2024 by Dr Who Fan Post: From your home page go to: Preferences for this project RakeSearch preferences Once there scroll to Edit preferences for the venue your PC(s) are in for the project (unless you have changed it it will be the first one, "Primary (default) preferences") Once at the proper venue page scroll down to Run only the selected applications Check/uncheck the boxes by the task type you do and don't want to run (empty box == not run). Make sure the "If no work for selected applications is available, accept work from other applications?" box is unchecked/empty. Scroll down to the Green Update button near bottom of page, click on it to save changes. Open the BOINC program on your PC(s), tap on the Application tab, scroll down to the listing for this project and click update so BOINC can receive the updated instructions. |

Disable / uncheck "Run test applications" in preferences, save and see if they still download? |

(Message 1639)
Posted 12 Jul 2022 by Dr Who Fan Post: Alas I don't have 64 bit Windows computers, just 64 bit Linux. So no work for me for 2 years now, so many points and badges I have missed out on. Install & run WINE on your Linux system. Then Download, Install latest STABLE WINDOWS BOINC version (7.16.20) without vbox under WINE and add/attach to projects manually/by URL. Note: I don't think you can run BOTH Linux and Windows versions simultaneously on same PC under WINE, haven't tried. Most projects install/load/run on WINE for me. |
