Dear participants,

today we started to assign badges granted for total credit. They depict local forest animals of Karelia, the region of Russian Federation where the project server is located. For the moment, badges are granted for milestones of 5000 and 25000 credits. More badges will follow soon!

Nice, thanks! :)

I have one comment - please add thousand separators to numbers in badge descriptions, they will be easier to read.

I have found that 9 new badges are coming: https://signature.statseb.fr/index.py?badge=217. Looks nice, I hope you will start assigning them soon :)

Looks nice :)

However I have doubts about credit levels for badges. Other projects usually have logarithmic-like levels, e.g. 10k, 20k, 50k, 100k, 200k, 500k.,,, Some of them use smaller steps for very big amount of credit only, e.g. 1T, 2T, 3T,... You use smaller gaps. Additionally last badge now is for 4M. At this moment me, Ralfy, jozef j and damotbe already passed that point, and more users will pass it too in near time - with new optimized apps it is much easier than with original app. And keep in mind that some people (mostly from Gridcoin team) can provide much more computing power than we. I think that last available badge should require 1B credits. Please reconsider credits levels for badges. Changing them now would hurt much less than doing so after a month or later.

Those of us with more modest crunching clusters appreciate the smaller steps. For myself the step from 125K t0 500K is a 2-3 month commitment as I can only get the optimized app to work on my single core Win 7 laptop at this time (will post asking for help in the number crunching forum in the next few days). Agree, however, that 4M is to low for the top badge.

Dear crunchers! We work on changing limits in a smart way, and have temporary suspended assignment of new badges. We hope to resume it with new limits tomorrow. Also, no one will lose the badges already received.

New badge levels can always be added to get to 1bil.

I agree with Daniel that the levels are a bit too easy to reach at the moment, and even I maybe able to get all current badges with a bit of extra effort.

The higher levels should be a challenge to reach and I propose an adjusted range that extends up to 100,000,000

Badge_____ Current Level________ Proposed Level

Hedgehog------------- 5,000 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 10,000
Squirrel--------------- 25,000 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 50,000
Hare------------------ 60,000 >>>>>>>>>>>>>> 100,000
Weasel--------------125,000 >>>>>>>>>>>>>> 250,000
Raccoon------------ 300,000 >>>>>>>>>>>>>> 500,000
Beaver-------------- 500,000 >>>>>>>>>>>> 1,000,000
Badger---------------750,000 >>>>>>>>>>>> 2,500,000
Boar----------------1,000,000 >>>>>>>>>>>> 5,000,000
Fox-----------------1,500,000 >>>>>>>>>>>> 7,500,000
Wolf-----------------1,750,000 >>>>>>>>>>> 10,000,000
Lynx--------------- 2,250,000 >>>>>>>>>>> 25,000,000
Deer--------------- 2,750,000 >>>>>>>>>>> 50,000,000
Elk----------------- 3,500,000 >>>>>>>>>>> 75,000,000
Bear--------------- 4,000,000 >>>>>>>>>> 100,000,000

Even for people with modest set ups they can reach a good deal of my proposed lower limits. It will take a concerted effort to reach the top level as it should.

The way they are currently being handed out you will need a lot of badges and that just starts to clutter things up.

Adjusting badges for people at this early stage is not a real issue and I believe that the volunteers will quickly understand.

If you want all the badges then you should have to work for them.

Anyway just a few thoughts, see what you think.

Thanks
Conan

Dear all, thank you for feedback, and special thanks to Daniel and Conan for contributions. We thought and ended up with new limits and one new badge, which will appear soon. The badges are split into 4 groups, the first ones are easier to achieve. We also updated their IDs so that the animals go sequentially, otherwise perfectionists (like me) would suffer.

1 Hedgehog 5,000
2 Squirrel 25,000
3 Hare 60,000
4 Weasel 125,000
5 Raccoon 300,000

6 Beaver 500,000
7 Badger 1,000,000
8 Boar 3,000,000
9 Ladoga Seal 7,500,000

10 Fox 10,000,000
11 Wolf 15,000,000
12 Lynx 25,000,000

13 Deer 50,000,000
14 Elk 75,000,000
15 Bear 100,000,000

Thank you Natalia, that looks good, let's chase those badges.

Just one more thing that you may of already noticed, is that all previously awarded badges are still there and show totals that the volunteer has not reached yet. Needs to be re-aligned to the new badge system.

Thanks again

Yes, some badges, previously granted to crunchers now to correspond a significantly more high milestones. But:
1. All of this badges has been granted by the rules in force in those several days;
2. Many of milestones of this 48 badges, granted to participants in TOP20 can by achieved by them in near future;
3. All of this participants made a great compute donation to project in its start phase.

I would prefer to have the badges for the levels I haven't reached yet to be removed please.
I do not mind that the levels have been changed and I would lose some of them until I completed enough work to get them back.

I think the jump from 3,000,000 to 7,500,000 to 10,000,000 is a bit odd and would suggest either:
3,000,000 to 5,000,000 to 10,000,000 or
3,000,000 to 6,000,000 to 10,000,000

Natalia, you say the badges have been put into sequential order but I cannot determine what that order is !
Can you explain please ?

Hopefully the members of the Raccoon Lovers team might discover you have a Raccoon badge and come to attain it :-)

Dear PDW, the sequential order means that "animals" IDs do not intersect with other badges, and they are sorted by award increase. Otherwise the "Rowan" badge was between some animals, and "Weasel" after big animals, it was quite a mess.
